A first-half goal from Joel Piroe was enough to defeat City 1-0 at Ashton Gate. The Robins started brightly but fell behind when Piroe capitalised on his own rebound after initially striking the post. Steven Benda made a handful of stops to prevent Matty James scoring on the night, as well as a low save to deny a first goal for Alex Scott. The Robins pushed back against the Swans in the second half but the visitors from South Wales held on, with Jamie Paterson going closest to doubling their lead, before Andy King almost headed City a late equaliser against his former side.
