Played in conditions more befitting of a wet cold January, the Autumnal weather proved difficult for both sides in a typical Cup tie with the Inishowen visitors zipping the ball around the Flagpole with class but were theatres in the final third by the talismanic Ronan Morris who dropped from centre mid to centre half to bolster Eamonn Sheridanโs Hoops. The Hoops opened the scoring on the half hour when the in form winger Kevin Doran hit a cracking daisy cutter from 30 yards out which just crept inside Moville keeper Ryan Coyleโs left post. Moville should have equalised on 40 minutes when striker Oisin Lynch missed a gilt edged header but was denied by Sean Gallagher in goals with a fine save. Sheridanโs Hoops, refreshed after Seamus Gavaghanโs tea and Anne Sheridanโs triangular sandwiches, came out sharp in the second half with Conor Temple combatting string in the middle of the park assisted by Shaky OโDonnell at left back attacking with aplomb throughout. Star striker Oisin McMenamin tormented the Moville defence and was denied on three separate occasions with two strikes going narrowly wide of the post and denied a third time by a fine save from Lynch on 59 minutes. Moville were unlucky not to equalise on 64 minutes when their striker Lunch saw his effort from the edge of the area rifle back of the post much to the relief of the Hoops faithful. The tie was over as a contest on 75 minutes when Morris leaped highest inside the box to head home the finest corner kick delivery from Doran which was heading goal ward with its accuracy. Striker Jay Curran came on for the final 20 minutes and worked tirelessly as the Hoops saw out the game and probably should have increased the score when young striker Charlie McAteer put his effort inside the box over Lynchโs bar on 80 minutes. A good win for Sheridanโs Hoops with Conor Temple, Shaky OโDonnell and Jay Curran impressing while Movilleโs youthful side can be impressed with their passing around the Flagpole which, for a neutral, was a joy to watch.
