Mousehole’s first-ever Southern League game on a Saturday at Trungle Parc produced an evenly-contested encounter containing plenty of end-to-end action, near misses and squandered goal chances. The draw maintains The Seagulls’ five-match unbeaten start to the season after promotion from the Western League, and sets up an even more intriguing Emirates FA Cup First Qualifying Round tie next Saturday against the very same opposition at the same venue. Mousehole opened positively but Bashley – who just missed out on a play-off spot on the last day of last season – were swift on the break and quick to press, which formed the pattern for much of the rest of the match. Home captain Jack Calver put his side in front with an 18-yard shot into the roof of the net shortly before the half-hour, but Toby Bailey poked in an equaliser just ten minutes later with the assistant referee indicating the ball had crossed the line. Mousehole regained the lead just before the hour, Hayden Turner latching on to a deflected through ball to score low from 15 yards. The home side then had several chances to increase the lead, but Bashley mounted a strong finish in the last ten minutes and equalised on 85 minutes as substitute Adam Grange, with his first touch of the ball, punished an uncharacteristic defensive lapse inside the penalty area.
