The Silkmen were edged out of the Macron Cup in a five-goal thriller on Monday afternoon, as Skelmersdale United progressed to the semi-final stage at the Leasing.com Stadium. James Salkeld opened the scoring for the visitors in the 22nd minute, yet their lead was to last just seven minutes before James Berry restored parity for Danny Whitaker's side. Tom Croughan restored Skelmersdale's lead with a fine strike six minutes before the interval, with Neil Danns firing home our second equaliser of the match right on the stroke of half-time. With the game ebbing towards a penalty shoot-out competition, Skelmersdale's Michael Howard struck from close-range to settle the tie right at the death.
