Southend Manor ended Leighton Town's Cup dream in front of the FATV cameras on Saturday and Gary Paterson was the hero as he netted a superb hat-trick. It's now seven goals in two FA Cup Qualifying games for the Southend hotshot, who turned in yet another fine performance. Paterson's treble, along with goals from Ben Britnell and Wilf Msiska, were enough for Southend and they go into the hat for Monday's Fourth Round Qualifying draw. There were 39 other ties in The Cup on Saturday but the cameras could only visit one place and all eyes were on Southchurch Park as Cup fever gripped the Essex club. Southend beat Chertsey Town 4-2 - and Paterson scored all four goals - to seal a place in the Third Round Qualifying, achieving the best FA Cup run in the club's history. And Russell Faulkner's side went into the match off the back of a fine run of form, having won their past five matches. Indeed, it was a tough ask for Leighton Town considering Southend have yet to taste defeat in the league this season and, including friendlies, Faulker's side have now lost just once in 22 games. The Essex League side took a while to get into the game as Leighton met them with stubborn resistance, but Paterson managed to break the deadlock on 27 minutes when he rifled home a penalty to put his side ahead. Southchurch Park was packed to the rafters and a bumper crowd of 310 looked on as the hosts doubled their lead just before the break. Britnell found space inside the box and his bullet header on 42 minutes left Leighton with a mountain to climb. Sean Downey's Southern League Division One Central side impressed in spells but Southend had too much quality, particularly from Paterson. He completed his hat-trick after half-time as Southend made it 4-0 and Msiska's fine finish made it high fives all round for Faulkner's impressive side.
