Atlanta United drew Orlando City SC 1-1 Sunday afternoon at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Juanjo Purata scored his first career MLS goal in just his second start for Atlanta, while Marcelino Moreno set a new club record for duels won with 20 on the day. The hosts came close to finding a match winner several times in the second half but were unable to convert another opportunity after out-shooting Orlando 18-3 in the match. Orlando opened the scoring in the 10th minute after receiving a free kick 20 yards away from the Atlanta goal. Captain Mauricio Pereyra tucked his shot inside of Rocco Ríos Novo’s right-hand post, finding the side netting with his set piece. Ronaldo Cisneros almost found an equalizer in the 38th minute. The Mexican forward flicked a header back toward goal from a Luiz Araújo free kick and forced a fingertip save out of Pedro Gallese. Purata found a response for Atlanta in the 71st minute. Substitute Thiago Almada soared a free kick over Orlando’s organized line and Purata was the first one to it, powering a header past Gallese. Atlanta controlled the play in the second half, dominating possession and creating several threatening chances. The hosts were inches away from firing in a stoppage-time winner as a Josef Martínez shot hit the right post in the 92nd minute. SUBSCRIBE to our channel! #UniteAndConquer
