Hello one and all, welcome back to another match vlog. This video shows highlights of Chester FC’s 3-2 win at home against Alfreton Town in the Vanarama National League North on Saturday 27th October 2018, in what turned out to be a thrilling finale. In what was our first league game in 25 days, we extended our impressive unbeaten run to 8 games and ensured that we still haven’t lost at home in all competitions this campaign. Our performance wasn’t spectacular, but the manner in which we won this game was superb. We got off to the perfect start by going 1-0 up after 4 minutes. Craig Mahon got felled in the danger area - resulting in Gary Roberts slotting home the penalty which set the tone for an enjoyable encounter. Alfreton equalised just minutes later as Reece Styche pounced on a poor defensive lapse by converting past Grant Shenton. It was Alfreton who turned the tables when Bobby Johnson struck an impressive free kick to make it 2-1 to the visitors, although it was saveable. Not too long after our opponents were reduced to 10 men as a disgusting challenge on Gary Stopforth was worthy of a red card. As the half went on we made frequent misplaced passes to head into the break a goal down. Our second half performance was much better as we began to up the tempo a little. Some of Alfreton’s play was disgraceful as they constantly made needless tackles and used the good old time wasting trick rather often, which makes this victory even more sweeter. Gary Roberts equalised by unleashing an absolute screamer which wouldn’t look out of place on the biggest stage. This has to be a Goal Of The Season contender for sure as people would be talking about it for years if it was shown on Match Of The Day. Shortly after we were reduced to 10 men as Steve Howson saw red, although it was a yellow at best from my vantage point. Our support began to step up to the plate despite the attendance being poor, but our lads thrived on that and eventually got the winner. Deep into the last minute of added time debutant Mani Dieseruvwe went down for a penalty, which Gary Roberts took to complete his hat-trick. His attempt was saved but he reacted quickly to poke home - sending our supporters into raptures. What a day, what a game and what a goal. We must keep this fine form up as the gap at the top is closing by the minute. Our next game is on Tuesday night where we entertain Ashton United at home - looking to make it another win at fortress Deva.
