The Blues played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Sligo Rovers at the RSC in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division. Kris Twardek opened the scoring for the visitors on 17 minutes before a trademark long range effort from Cory Galvin leveled matters just a couple of minutes later. Shortly before half-time Shane Duggan then saw his shot come off the crossbar and end up in the back of the net via the arm of Sligo keeper Mitchell Beeney to send the Blues in at the break leading the tie. The second half exploded to life with two Sligo goals, 5 miutes either side of the hour mark, from Ronan Coughlan and Romeo Parkes fired Rovers into a 3-2 lead. Izzy Akinade was taken down in the box but Duggan's penalty was saved by Beeney to keep the score at 3-2. The Blues were not to be denied an equalizing goal though and with just 10 minutes left on the clock Akinade clipped a delightful finish over the Sligo keeper and into the net to make it 3-3. The drama would not end there and Sligo were awarded a penalty of their own late on which Matthew Connor superbly saved down to his left hand side, as Beeney had also done, to clinch a deserved point for The Blues at the end of a pulsating match. Next up for the Blues at the RSC is a tie with UCD AFC in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division on Friday the 24th of May with a 7.45pm start.
