Australia are 174 runs away from victory and England want just the 7 wickets to go 1-0 up in the Ashes series. A brilliant third session saw Australia begin their pursuit of 281, what would be the third highest successful chase at Edgbaston after England's chase of 378 against India last year and South Africa's 283 versus the hosts in 2008. Flat pitch and the shining sun made sure the conditions were excellent for batting as the openers strode out and made the Australian fan believe that this target is gettable. David Warner, bunny to Stuart Broad over the years managed to get through the dangerous bowlers opening spell in England. Another reason for the fans to believe Australia can do it. The openers Usman Khawaja and Warner then stitched a partnership making full use of the poor deliveries that came their way scoring boundaries for fun. They were also helped with a number of no balls from the English fast bowlers. It took a wobbly delivery from Ollie Robinson to strike first blood as Warner edged one to the keeper scoring 36 in 57 balls. Stuart Broad was reintroduced in the attack and reassured faith in himself getting rid of Marnus Labuschagne (13) and Steve Smith (6) in space of four overs. The day was coming to an end and with 15 minutes remaining, Australians didn't risk sending Travis Head at 5 and pushed Scott Boland up the order as the nightwatchman. Boland is standing unbeaten at 13 off 19 balls alongside Khawaja (34* off 81) as Australia resume their chase tomorrow. Rain is predicted over longer periods of Tuesday in Birmingham and we might get affected by the overcast conditions. The bowlers however will enjoy keeping the batters under the pump.
