Hello and warm welcome to the live coverage of the second day’s play of the first test match featuring the hosts India and the visitors Australia from Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium Nagpur. India will resume their innings at 77/1 with Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin. India's deficit in the first innings is exactly 100 runs. As day two begins India will be looking to build a solid partnership and continue with the momentum from the previous day. Skipper Rohit Sharma who has been in sparkling form will look to lead from the front and convert his half-century into a big score. Meanwhile Ravichandran Ashwin who also achieved a personal milestone on day one will be eager to make an impact with the bat as well. 1st day Australia won the toss and opted to bat first but they didn’t get the start they wanted as they lost both their openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja for just one run and failed to make an impact with the bat. Mohammed Siraj drew the first blood of the day on the very first ball of his spell and Shami clean-bowled southpaw David Warner with an absolute peach of a delivery. Marnus Labuschagne and Steven Smith then put up a solid partnership of 82 runs for the third wicket only to be broken by Ravindra Jadeja who was well assisted by KS Bharat on debut. Peter Handscomb and Alex Carey tried to steady the ship. However their journey was abruptly interrupted by the wily spin of Ravi Ashwin who clean-bowled Alex Carey thereby marking the completion of his 450th milestone wicket in Test cricket. Alex Carey amassed 36 runs and forged a partnership of 53 runs for the sixth wicket. Australia faced a daunting challenge from the Indian spinners Jadeja and Ashwin and faced a massive collapse in the second and third sessions as they were bundled out for 177 runs. On the flip side Mohammed Siraj and Shami with the early strikes followed by a five-wicket haul from Ravindra Jadeja and 3 wickets from R Ashwin who became the second Indian to claim 450 Test wickets were helpful in keeping the visitors under 200 runs. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul came out to open the inning for India and Rohit Sharma started with three boundaries in the first over bowled by his opposite number Pat Cummins and provided a good start to the team doing the bulk of the scoring getting to his 15th half-century in Test cricket. The pair put on a 76-run partnership for the first wicket. KL Rahul was dismissed for 20 at the cue end of the day and Todd Murphy bags his maiden Test wicket. Pitch Report (Ajit Agarkar and Matthew Hayden): "Nine of the eleven wickets have been lost to spin so far. Say no more because spin was used to bowl 65 of those. When you consider the wickets that really occurred yesterday you'll notice that many of them were in and around the straight turning out of that region. Labuschagne used an inside-out approach and kept the ball in his possession. This breakup is seen towards the left-handed batter. It will be impossible to bowl to Axar Patel from over the wicket. Lots of pebbles and different debris that's shattering over the top of this wicket. It's going to be spin spin spin and more spin. There's going to be a lot more spin on offer today but there are some runs to be had. Big day for both teams.
